No longer do you need to worry about sites linking to your page incorrectly, just use TCN 404 Tracker. It will silently track all your 404 errors, and allow you to choose where to redirect future requests to these pages. TCN 404 Tracker uses permanent redirects, so search engines will also know to update the url in their index.

PcsExplorer
