4. Security in ASP.Net Applications
Marcus Mac Innes demonstrates how security on a web site can be compromised by taking advantage of holes within the application code. These holes can be discovered by using a series of probes which disclose whether or not vulnerability exists. He also demonstrated using a Cross Site Scripting attack how the Forms Authentication cookie could be stolen and silently sent to an attackers website to be stored for later use. The key message of the talk is to ensure that all user input is validated before any other processing is done. This together with strict use of secure coding standards would have disabled any attackers opportunities. Source code included.

5. ionCube Installer Creator for Web Applications
IPF creates familiar, easy to use and reliable installers for web applications, e.g. PHP/ASP based applications. IPF created installers give a professional impression, and are a preferable alternative to distributing a bundle of files in a zip archive, and dramatically simplify the often awkward task of successful product deployment to remote servers. Install .exes for Windows can be created on Windows or Linux, with the Linux version being ideal for dynamically creating custom installers from a web server server prior to download. On Windows, in addition to the command line version, a comprehensive and easy to use GUI is provided to simplify usage, and requiring no scripting. Installers offer fast install to remote or local servers, and eliminate common problems from error prone tasks such as setting custom file/dir permissions, and file corruption caused by WinZIP or manual FTP in ASCII mode instead of binary. Post install scripts can be triggered, custom graphics used for precise product branding, and familiar features of license agreement and help display plus much more are included. The latest release 2.0 allows multi-language installers to be created, e.g. English, German, Japanese, etc., supports custom installer icons and version info, and has other innovations.

10. Integrating PayPal Payments into E-Commerce Applications with ASP.NET
E-Commerce applications require mechanisms for payment. Although more commonly than not e-Commerce sites will use full credit card processing gateways, giving PayPal as an additional option of payment provides additional payment options for your customers, especially those that dont want to pay by credit card over the Internet. If you run a Web shop that uses direct credit card processing and want to integrate PayPal seamlessly, youll find that using PayPal as a processing service is not as straight forward as using a payment gateway. In this article I describe how you can minimize the external PayPal interaction and work the PayPal payment into the order processing workflow to provide a seamless interface using ASP.NET and C#. However, the principles used here should be applicable to any Web programming environment.
